The Fatback Band, formed in New York City in 1970 by drummer Bill Curtis, is a notable American funk and disco band. Known for their energetic āstreet funkā style, they rose to fame in the 1970s and 1980s with hits like ā(Do The) Spanish Hustleā and āI Like Girls.ā Their 1979 single āKing Tim III (Personality Jock)ā is often recognised as the first commercially released hip-hop single. The original lineup included Johnny King, Johnny Flippin, and others. The band has continued to perform and influence genres like funk, disco, and hip-hop.
