About

The origins of the Egypt Exploration Society (EES) date to 1873, when Amelia Blanford Edwards travelled through Egypt and later inspired the Society's founding in 1882. The EES archives trace the intertwined histories of Britain and Egypt through the lens of Camden, home to the Society since 1892. As we launch our first 'EES Festival' celebrating the start of a new chapter in the Society's contributions to Camden's local (but international!) heritage, the Society reflects on its legacy through collections, Mary Chubb's writings, and its London locations: from UCL and the British Museum to Tavistock Square and finally Doughty Mews.
