The international exhibition Between Life and Death: Stories of Rescue during the Holocaust bringing powerful personal stories of courage and moral choice during the Second World War is opening in Camden. 

Presented by the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRS), based in Poland, the exhibition has been showcased at more than thirty venues across Europe, including the European Commission Headquarters in Brussels. Earlier this year, it was also presented at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The British chapter of the exhibition, which features accounts from fifteen European countries, tells the stories of Eva Paddock, who arrived in Great Britain as a child on one of the Kindertransports organised by Sir Nicholas Winton and Ida and Louise Cook, the London-based sisters who helped Jewish refugees before the war by smuggling money and valuables across borders and supporting them upon arrival in the UK.

Spirit of South Asia: celebrating the Bangladeshi Community in Camden

Curator Bablu Miah from arts organisation Trapped in Zone One has been working with Camden's Bangladeshi community for the past two years. Through creative workshops Bablu heard stories from people who shared their experiences of living in the borough and their deep connection to Camden. The community shared stories of their cultural heritage and the importance of sharing food, family, language and kindness. Their creative conversations inspired these artworks, by London-based artist Limma Ali, that celebrate the spirit of Camden's Bangladeshi community.

Spirit of South Asia: celebrating the Bangladeshi Community in Camden

This exhibition brings to life the extraordinary tales of moral courage and heroism during one of the darkest chapters in human history. 

The exhibition features accounts from survivors and rescuers across fifteen European countries. The British chapter of the exhibition highlights several significant stories, including that of Eva Paddock, who arrived in the UK as a child on one of the transports organized by the renowned Sir Nicholas Winton. Also featured are the remarkable stories of sisters Ida and Louise Cook, London-based women who played a pivotal role in helping Jewish refugees by smuggling valuables across borders and supporting refugees upon their arrival in the UK.

This traveling exhibition is the result of a collaborative effort between European Network Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRS), the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw, and the Silent Heroes Memorial Centre in Berlin. First presented in Brussels in 2018, it has since been shown in numerous European countries and even in Japan, reaching thousands of visitors worldwide.

The official opening of the exhibition at Swiss Cottage Library will take place on the 7th July at 18:00 GMT.

Presented as part of South Asian Heritage Month, this exhibition revisits Ribeiro's powerful and deeply personal visual language - one shaped by migration, modernism, memory, and the experience of belonging across cultures. Bringing together selected works that span his remarkable career, the exhibition offers a renewed encounter with an artist whose bold abstractions and expressive forms continue to resonate today. In returning Ribeiro's work to Swiss Cottage, A Retrospective Revisited not only honours a significant moment in the artist's history, but also celebrates his enduring contribution to British and South Asian artistic heritage.
